Met Les Fleurs du Mal (1857) van Charles Baudelaire blies er een nieuwe wind door de Franse poëzie. Zijn bloemen van het kwaad wasemden schoonheid en verderf uit. Voor zijn Zwarte Venus, de mulattin Jeanne Duval, trok de dichter alle erotische registers open. Thema’s als prostitutie, sadisme en fetisjisme schokten de goegemeente zozeer dat een Parijse rechtbank hem prompt veroordeelde.
Deze bloemlezing biedt de vijftig beste verzen uit de bundel. Meestervertaler Paul Claes brengt een eerbetoon aan de volmaakte versvorm, de suggestieve klankeffecten en de associatieve beeldspraak van het origineel. De uitwaaierende symboliek maakt elk gedicht volgens de criticus Lloyd James Austin ‘een raam dat uitzicht biedt op het oneindige’.
Een inleiding, een biografie en een commentaar vervolledigen deze poëtische presentatie van de grootste Franse symbolist.

Not heaving from my ribbed breast only;

It was 47 years ago on July 16, 1969, that the Apollo 11 Mission to the moon with a Saturn-V rocket was launched. The astronauts Buzz Aldrin, Michael Collins and Neil Armstrong, the commander of this expedition, were those onboard. On July 24, eight days later, they landed safely in the Pacific. NASA chose Armstrong to be the first person on the moon, in part, because they believed Armstrong was a man lacking a large ego. Although he was actually a test pilot and a man of few words, he beautifully articulated several phrases regarding his experience on viewing planet Earth from the moon; some of which still impress today.
Given the current Zeitgeist, I consider his words crucial, while simultanuously retaining a poetic quality. To amplify this aspect of deep insight, as well as the emotions it invokes, I translated these words into French. The text is recited by Aurélie Camil. This work became the core of the musical composition, “That tiny pea”. Visual Artist Paul Bogaers added film images to the clip at a later stage.

Le secret de l’univers
Dans ces profondeurs transparentes de l’espace, qui se prêtent
à toutes les formes changeantes de nos rêves et qui sollicitent
toutes les aspirations de notre âme, reluit et frissonne le secret
même de l’univers. L’invisible devient visible dans cette mani-
festation à la fois idéale et réelle qu’est l’espace. Trompés par
la brutalité et la grossièreté de certains contacts matériels,
nous pourrions croire à la brutalité et à la grossièreté de la
matière elle-même. L’espace est un rappel immense et perma-
nent à l’idéalité de la matière. Ceux qui contemplent, aiment et
comprennent l’espace profond savent, sans s’en douter, ce
qu’est la matière. C’est en ce sens nouveau qu’on peut dire :
« Les cieux racontent la gloire de Dieu », et les simples, les
humbles, quand ils répandent dans la sérénité du soir une âme
vivante et bonne, quand ils mêlent doucement leur pensée à
l’espace recueilli, lisent sans le savoir, dans l’infini qui est sur
leur tête, le secret de la poussière qu’ils foulent aux pieds.

Vijf gevederde luchtschepen en acht vreemde vogels zijn in juni naar het warme zuiden getrokken.
Deze dertien droomwerken van de Tilburgse kunstenaar Sjon Brands vormen ruim drie maanden lang de gevleugelde tentoonstelling Artilugios Bosquianos: Sjon Brands in het prachtige Museo Lázaro Galdiano in het centrum van Madrid. De expositie loopt parallel met de grote Jheronimus Bosch tentoonstelling (El Bosco. Exposición del V Centenario) in het even verderop gelegen Museo del Prado tot en met 11 september 2016.
De expositie van Sjon Brands duurt nog tot en met zondag 11 september 2016 en is van dinsdag tot en met zaterdag geopend van 10.00 tot 16.30 uur, op zondag van 10.00 tot 15.00 uur. Museo Lázaro Galdiano, Serrano 122, Madrid.

Tribute to Hieronymus Bosch in Congo

De wereldberoemde Belgische kunstenaar Jan Fabre (Antwerpen, 1958) maakte tussen 2011 en 2013 een serie monumentale ‘mozaïekpanelen’ onder de titel ‘Tribute to Hieronymus Bosch in Congo’.
De serie maakt deel uit van zijn kritische reflecties over het koloniale verleden van België, een thema dat sinds 2002 veelvuldig voorkomt in het werk van Fabre.
Beeldtaal Jheronimus Bosch: Tribute to Hieronymus Bosch in Congo is een symbolische verbeelding van de wreedheden en de absurditeit die Congo heeft ondergaan, gebruik makend van de beeldtaal uit de schilderijen van Jheronimus Bosch. Het beeld van elk mozaïekpaneel wordt gevormd door het toepassen van natuurlijk geruid iriserende prachtkever dekschilden . Het geeft ze een mysterieuze, onwerkelijks uitstraling, letterlijk en figuurlijk.
De werken van Jan Fabre maken duidelijk dat de beeldtaal van Jheronimus Bosch niets aan relevantie heeft verloren in de 500 jaar sinds zijn overlijden. Met de huidige generatie kunstenaars krijgt de beeldtaal van Bosch weer een nieuw publiek en een andere stem. Tegelijkertijd zijn deze werken van Fabre, met hun grote formaat en uniek materiaalgebruik, totaal anders dan het werk van Bosch zelf.
Bosch Grand Tour: Deze tentoonstelling maakt onderdeel uit van Bosch Grand Tour. Zeven vooraanstaande Brabantse musea presenteren in 2016 een hedendaags tentoonstellingsprogramma rondom Jheronimus Bosch. Laat u inspireren en verrassen tijdens een ontdekkingstocht langs actuele kunst, design en cultuur in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Breda, Eindhoven en Tilburg.

For 80 years Ria has been bang on target. To mark this impressive milestone ‘in almost every picture #7’ is being re-released this year in the form of a special anniversary edition with eight new shots and an exhibition in Tilburg.
Ria van Dijk shot her first photo at the Tilburg fair in 1936 when she was 16 years old. It started at in Ria’s hometown of Tilburg, but throughout the years she followed the fair from town to town. It became a tradition and Ria continued shooting (guns and photos) year after year. And the bullseye is that Ria kept every single photo as if they were her trophies.
In 2008 Erik Kessels and Joep Eijkens collected Ria’s photographs in the book ‘in almost every picture #7’. In 2016 Ria returns to the fair, she will shoot on July 22nd her 80th photo at the opening of the Tilburgse Kermis. For the occasion, KesselsKramer and City Marketing Tilburg publish this celebratory updated edition of In almost every picture #7.

WONDERBOX is een reizend museum, dat bestaat uit grote kijkdoos-vitrines die gevuld worden met verrassende combinaties van (kunst)voorwerpen uit de veelomvattende collectie van Lorenzetti uit Tilburg: kunst, design, fotografie en natuur.
De boxen van dit ‘WONDERBOX Museum’ komen als een verspreid mini-museum op allerlei plekken in de stad te staan: in ziekenhuizen en zorginstellingen, in wachtkamers en winkels, bij bedrijven en bibliotheken en mogelijk ook bij particulieren thuis.
Inmiddels hebben zich al een aantal locaties gemeld die belangstelling voor plaatsing tonen.
Naast deze ‘WONDERBOX Reizend Museum’ maakt de Tilburgse stichting Lorenzetti een variant voor het (basis)onderwijs, ‘WONDERBOX Op School’.
Daarbij komt een serie van tien Wonderboxen als een tijdelijk museum een aantal weken op een school te staan. Elke box heeft een thema en de leerlingen kunnen dan met het meegeleverd lespakket allerlei opdrachten doen. Aan deze vorm van ‘museum op school’ blijkt grote behoefte te zijn.
Een derde toepassing van de Wonderboxen gaat ‘WONDERBOX voor de Buurt’ heten. Hierbij komen Wonderboxen in buurt- en wijkcentra te staan, die door de buurtbewoners zelf gevuld gaan worden.
Cultuurparticipatie in optima forma: WONDERBOX is in alle opzichten uniek: het is zowel artistiek, cultuur-educatief als sociaal een innoverend project. Het is de bedoeling om in totaal een vijftigtal Wonderboxen te maken.
