This exhibition follows the romance and radicalism of the Rossetti generation, through and beyond the Pre-Raphaelite years: Dante Gabriel, Christina and Elizabeth (née Siddal). Visitors will get to experience world-renowned works from their boundary-pushing careers.
The Rossettis’ approach to art, love and lifestyles are considered revolutionary, and this will be thoroughly explored in an immersive show, using spoken poetry, drawings, paintings, photography, design and more.
This is the first retrospective of Dante Gabriel Rossetti at Tate and the largest exhibition of his iconic pictures in two decades.
It will also be the most comprehensive exhibition of Elizabeth Siddal’s work for 30 years, featuring rare surviving watercolours and important drawings.
The Rossettis will take a fresh look at the fascinating myths surrounding the unconventional relationships between Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Elizabeth Siddal, Fanny Cornforth and Jane Morris.

How do you show movement in a static object? And how would you place this object in alarge exhibition space? How would you want the audience to perceive this, and how do you combine all of this into a playing field for a professional dancer?
These are the questions Matea Bakula (1990) and Ruta Butkute (1984) have been working on recently at PARK. The answers to these questions were the inspiration of this exhibition focusing on movement, dynamics and interaction between people, objects and space.
The visitor is invited to experience rather than view this presentation. Realize that the works are made in dialogue with the space in which they are presented and explore your own role as spectator within this interplay.

PARK is an art initiative founded by Rob Moonen in cooperation with six other artists living in Tilburg. At this moment the PARK staff consists of Linda Arts, René Korten, Rob Moonen and Lieve van den Bijgaart.
PARK is a platform for contemporary visual arts positioning itself between Kunstpodium T and Museum De Pont. PARK organizes an exhibition program in the former Goretti Chapel at the Wilhelminapark in Tilburg.

Wie soll man “herrlich” sein in einem Land, in dem Korruption und Unterdrückung herrschen, in dem nur überlebt, wer sich einem restriktiven Regime unterwirft?
Wie soll man diese Erfahrung überwinden, wenn darüber nicht gesprochen wird, auch nicht nach der Emigration und nicht einmal mit der eigenen Tochter?
“Was sehen sie, wenn sie mit ihren Sowjetaugen durch die Gardinen in den Hof einer ostdeutschen Stadt schauen?” fragt sich Nina, wenn sie an ihre Mutter Tatjana und deren Freundin Lena denkt, die Mitte der neunziger Jahre die Ukraine verließen, in Jena strandeten und dort noch einmal von vorne begannen.
Lenas Tochter Edi hat längst aufgehört zu fragen, sie will mit ihrer Herkunft nichts zu tun haben. Bis Lenas fünfzigster Geburtstag die vier Frauen wieder zusammenbringt und sie erkennen müssen, dass sie alle eine Geschichte teilen.
In ihrem neuen Roman erzählt Sasha Marianna Salzmann von Umbruchzeiten, von der “Fleischwolf-Zeit” der Perestroika bis ins Deutschland der Gegenwart. Sie erzählt, wie Systeme zerfallen und Menschen vom Sog der Ereignisse mitgerissen werden.
Dabei folgt sie vier Lebenswegen und spürt der unauflöslichen Verstrickung der Generationen nach, über Zeiten und Räume hinweg. Bildstark, voller Empathie und mit großer Intensität.
Sasha Marianna Salzmann ist Theaterautor:in, Essayist:in und Dramaturg:in. Für ihre Theaterstücke, die international aufgeführt werden, hat sie verschiedene Preise erhalten, zuletzt den Kunstpreis Berlin 2020. Ihr Debütroman Außer sich wurde 2017 mit dem Literaturpreis der Jürgen Ponto-Stiftung und dem Mara-Cassens-Preis ausgezeichnet und stand auf der Shortlist des Deutschen Buchpreises. Er ist in sechzehn Sprachen übersetzt. Für ihren zweiten Roman, Im Menschen muss alles herrlich sein (2021), ebenfalls für den Deutschen Buchpreis nominiert, erhielt sie den Preis der Literaturhäuser 2022 und den Hermann-Hesse-Preis 2022.

In het kader van de tentoonstelling van Vincent Dams wordt op deze avond de film ‘Boer of Duty’ van Dick Verdult vertoond. Dams zegt:
‘Het toppunt van surrealisme is optimisme!
Twee zomers geleden hielp ik in de lockdown mee op een filmset van goede vriend en collega Dick Verdult. Dus toen de vraag vanuit PARK kwam om een filmavond te organiseren gingen mijn gedachten gelijk daar naartoe. Maar aangezien die film, ‘Als uw gat maar lacht’, 29 januari aanstaande pas in première gaat op het Rotterdams filmfestival was het zeer begrijpelijk niet echt mogelijk die enkele dagen later te tonen in PARK.
“Je kan misschien wel ‘Boer of Duty’ laten zien”, zei Dick, waarop ik na wat peinzen reageerde, “dat is eigenlijk best een goed idee”.
Op het ontwerp van de oude VHS hoes las ik de zin ‘Het toppunt van surrealisme is optimisme’ waarmee het mooi direct aansluiting vindt bij mijn tentoonstelling over optimisme in rare tijden bij PARK. En terwijl ik als negenjarig jongetje scènes uit Tour of Duty, de welbekende serie over de Vietnamoorlog na speelde in de bosjes en struiken van Veldhoven, deed in 1993 Dick dus hetzelfde, 10 km verderop in de bossen en landerijen van Nederwetten, alleen dan mét camera.
Deze ‘eerste gezellige Brabantse oorlogsfilm’, die we gerust een cultklassieker kunnen noemen, wiens cast bijna volledig uit oude gerenommeerde Brabantse kunstenaars bestaat zoals Jo Gijsen, Jan de Bie, Peer de Wit, Theo Kuijpers en Arie Berkulin, beleeft dus 30 jaar later eindelijk zijn Tilburgse première.’
Vincent Dams verricht op deze avond ook de introductie.

Op 20 februari 1909 luidt de Italiaanse dichter F.T. Marinetti met zijn futuristisch manifest in de Franse krant Le Figaro een nieuw artistiek tijdperk in.
In het manifest bezingt hij de snelheid, de toekomst, agressiviteit en activisme, en wijst hij het verleden resoluut af. Deze ideële uitgangspunten spreken veel jonge kunstenaars en intellectuelen in Italië en Europa aan, waardoor Marinetti al snel een groep jonge futuristen om zich heen heeft verzameld. De futuristen dromen van een radicaal nieuwe toekomst, waarin geen plek is voor het verleden.
Hun avant-gardistische ideologie, in al zijn veelzijdigheid en complexiteit, groeide uit tot een voorbeeld voor de modernistische mentaliteit van de twintigste eeuw.

Van de uitvinding van het wiel tot de raket: al van oudsher zoekt de mens manieren om de wereld om ons heen een beetje mooier of efficiënter te maken. Minstens zo interessant is de zoektocht die hieraan voorafgaat. Hier schuilt namelijk de verbeeldingskracht en is er nog volop ruimte om te dromen.
Beeldend kunstenaar Panamarenko (1940-2019) was op dit gebied een absolute grootmeester. Zijn krabbels, constructies en machines getuigen van een ontembare vindingrijkheid. Niet gericht op het resultaat, maar op de intentie. Met extra aandacht voor de schoonheid van de mislukking.
Het is een missie die nog altijd velen aanspreekt. Ook Johannes Langkamp (1985), Fillip Studios (Roos Meerman, 1991 en Tom Kortbeek, 1987), Stan Wannet (1977), Romy Joya Kuldip Singh (1993) en Wim Warrink (1983) zijn geïntrigeerd door het functioneren – of niet-functioneren – van de wereld om ons heen.
Wat zijn andere mogelijkheden van menselijke uitvindingen, als we verder kijken dan hun gebruikelijke toepassingen? En wanneer gaat de machine zijn eigen leven leiden?
Zo creëert Stan Wannet een ateliersetting waarin een mannetje (de kunstenaar zelf?) allerhande spullen ordent en er een levende figuur mee opbouwt. Wim Warrink zet de monumentale vloer uit 1888 op het spel: houden flinterdunne draadjes het gewicht van een enorme stempel?
In Kunst en vliegwerk vormt het gedachtengoed van Panamarenko het uitgangspunt voor een actuele groepstentoonstelling waarin de zwaartekracht wordt getart, dansende pennen een geheimschrift vastleggen, tandwielen dieren in beweging zetten en machines de museale villa tot leven laten komen. In De Gastenkamer presenteert de Osse Francisco Gomez de la Cruz zijn puzzelkistjes.
