gaat klinken in deze oude Dubbelmonarchie.

Uitverkochte zaal, leert een kier tussen gordijnen.
Geroezemoes heet in het Duits Geschwirr.

Benieuwd naar wat er komen gaat slaat
Gustav Mahler zijn programmaboekje open. Hé, kijk:

ook Giacomo Puccini is hier. Wat verderop
strijkt bleek een jongeling, voor het eerst in de stad

om musea te bekijken, z’n haren glad. Net zeventien
is hij, en zijn paspoort noemt hem Adolf Hitler.

Licht dimt, en doek gaat op. Geruisloos haast,
als op een uitvaart de trage tred langs overlevers.
