Eens liet ze ‘r kind zien, en vraagde met de ogen: ‘Hoe vindt ge myn kind, myn schat, myn alles? Zie eens die kleur!’

  ‘Dat gele streepje is aardig.’
‘Geel… die wangen geel? ‘t Is rose! Geel?’
‘Ik sprak van ‘t jurkje.’

   Andermaal liet ze ‘r kind zien, en vraagde met de ogen: ‘Hoe vindt ge myn kind, myn schat, myn alles? Zie hoe blank… en hoe rood… en gemarmerd!’

   ‘Daar is te veel styfsel in.’
‘Styfsel in de armpjes van myn kind?’
‘Ik sprak van ‘t jurkje.’

Weder liet de zorgvuldige moeder haar kind zien, en vraagde met de ogen: ‘Hoe vindt ge myn kind, myn schat, myn alles? Zie die vormen… die ronding… die lynen!’

   ‘Te kort van lyf.’
‘Myn kind te kort van lyf ?’
‘Ik sprak van ‘t jurkje.’

   Toen werd de moeder verdrietig. Het bedroefde haar dat men het kind niet zag. Wel tooide ze graag haar lieveling, maar ‘t smartte haar dat die tooi belette het kind te zien.
