Iers gedicht ‘Scél lem dúib’ vertaald door Lauran Toorians

Iers gedicht ‘Scél lem dúib’

vertaald door Lauran Toorians

(Ut dixit Finn úa Baíscni:)

Scél lem dúib:

  dordaid dam,

snigid gaim,

  ro-fáith sam;

gáeth ard úar,

  ísel grían,

gair a rith,

  riuirhecht rían;

rorúad rath,

  ro-cleth cruth,

ro-gab gnáth

  giugrann guth;

ro-gab úacht

  etti én;

aigre ré:

  é mo scél.

(Zoals Finn, afstammeling van Baíscne, sprak:)

Ik breng je nieuws:

het hert roept,

de winter sneeuwt,

de zomer is vertrokken.

De wind is hard en guur,

de zon staat laag,

haar weg is kort,

de zee opgezweept,

de varens kleurden rood

en verloren hun vorm,

door gewoonte gegrepen

roept de wilde gans,

koude krijgt greep op

de vogelvleugels;

een tijd van ijs:

dat is mijn nieuws.
