De stad, de straat, de lamp, de zaak,
Bevroren is het duister, zinloos licht.
Al overleef je nog zo, nog zo vaak,
Het is zoals het is. De deur zit dicht.

Je sterft, staat op, en doet alsof je lacht,
Je wereldje hervindt zijn stille kramp:
Het vastgevroren water van de nacht,
De stad, de straat, de zaak, de lamp.
