Op 26 mei presenteert Lustwarande de eerste editie van Brief Encounters van dit jaar, met nieuwe performances van Melanie Bonajo (NL), William Hunt (UK) en Grace Schwindt (DE).
Het programma wordt begin mei bekend gemaakt.
Op 8 september vindt de tweede editie plaats, met onder andere nieuw werk van Gosie Vervloessem (BE).

Dag stad ik maak nog één keer

Moeder wordt op de billen geslagen door jochie van 14.
In de Bisschop Zwijsenstraat, in het bijzijn van haar kinderen,
kon een verse puber zich blijkbaar niet beheersen.
“Ach”, zullen sommigen zeggen, “doe rustig het zijn kwajongens streken”.
Maar kwajongens worden mannen, met diezelfde onbegrip dat dit meer is dan een aanraking.
En als dat onbegrip ook volwassen wordt, dan krijg je een ergere vorm van aanranding.
Want dat is wat dit was, aanranding, geen misplaats puberaal gedrag.
Voor de eerbaarheid van die vrouw was dit een aanslag.
De schaamte dat je in het bijzijn van je kinderen wordt gedegradeerd.
Blijkbaar ben je publiek eigendom dat zelfs door een tienertje mag worden “gehanteerd”.
Tilburg, onze spiegel is hoe wij mensen behandelen.
Vaders, dit is niet de wijsheid die wij op deze wereld moeten achterlaten.
In deze tijd van genderloosheid, zijn sommigen op zoek naar de definitie van man zijn. Maar in ieder geval is het niet dit.
En nu de hamvraag: “Onias, overdrijf je niet?” “Een tik op de billen een aanslag?”
Wel nu mijn wedervraag: Hoe zou jij reageren? Als dit je moeder, dochter, zus, tante, nicht, buurvrouw of collega was?
Want dat was die vrouw en als je dat niet beseft, ligt ergens het probleem ook bij jou.
Was getekend jullie stadsdichter.

In this book, Gerald Janecek provides a comprehensive account of Moscow Conceptualist poetry and performance, arguably the most important development in the arts of the late Soviet period and yet one underappreciated in the West.
Such innovative poets as Vsevolod Nekrasov, Lev Rubinstein, and Dmitry Prigov are among the most prominent literary figures of Russia in the 1980s and 1990s, yet they are virtually unknown outside Russia. The same is true of the numerous active Russian performance art groups, especially the pioneering Collective Actions group, led by the brilliantly inventive Andrey Monastyrsky.
Everything Has Already Been Written strives to make Moscow Conceptualism more accessible, to break the language barrier and to foster understanding among an international readership by thoroughly discussing a broad range of specific works and theories.
Janecek’s study is the first comprehensive analysis of Moscow Conceptualist poetry and theory, vital for an understanding of Russian culture in the post-Conceptualist era.
Gerald Janecek: is a professor emeritus of Russian at the University of Kentucky. As the start of a new series of live projects entitled BODY MATTERS, the VENICE INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCE ART WEEK presents on Saturday, December 15, 2018, a full one-day public event starting at 16:00h at the historic premises of the European Cultural Centre | Palazzo Mora, Venice (admission free).
Anam Cara – Dwelling Body is a live collective performance opera envisioned and devised by the artist duos VestAndPage and Andrigo&Aliprandi, perused conceptually together with Francesco Kiais (GR/IT). It will feature them in collaboration with Giorgia de Santi (IT), daz disley (UK), Marisa Garreffa (AU/IT), Fenia Kotsopoulou (GR/UK), Pavlos Kountouriotis (GR/BE), Enok Ripley (CA), Sara Simeoni (IT/DE), Mauro & Matilde Sambo (IT), Marcel Sparmann (DE) and Susanne Weins (DE), with the artistic and organizational assistance of Sabrina Bellenzier (IT) and Gülbeden Kulbay (SW) and under the technical direction of Giovanni Dantomio – We Exhibit.
When we are understood, we are at home – so here we dwell.
On this occasion, Palazzo Mora’s main hall and its six adjacent rooms will transform into a dwelling site of interconnected performance installations, where temporary, intensive co-creation processes aim to reveal qualities of existence.
As the title Anam Cara suggests, the artists – soul friends – gather and unveil hidden intimacies of their lives. They perform to find and draw from a common origin, their bodies engaging in acts of recognition and belonging. Anam Cara cuts across the normative, morality, categories of thought. The soul is uncaged, free from constraint, to foster companionship.
An absolute “I” is unthinkable, for the “I” is social. When more people share their sensory perception of the reality and live it as a felt mutual experience, the mirror of Narcissus falls into pieces: individual selves become relational and call for the collective, having no more reason to determine their singularity.
In a performance opera, visions are like threads that intersect with one another in an interweaving of lives and biographies, destinies and dreams, performed without a preconceived design. Both artists and the audience become part of an existential fabric, which consists of a performatic crossover of systems and patterns in an ever-changing reconfiguration of the notion of coexistence.
Castling under the weft of ephemeral scenic compositions woven of existential paths and with a non-linear narrative, the artists are absorbed into one multifaceted Dwelling Body, where the form, the image, the language, the gaze and the understanding simultaneously harbour to find shelter.
Anam Cara – Dwelling Body does not take place in a univocally descriptive or representative staged act. It follows a non-linear narrative structure, which develops through time-based interaction between the artists and the viewers, so as between people and cultures. Eventually, it is a founding aesthetic momentum where actual places, metaphorical places, invisible places and imaginary places are home of a perceptual itinerary, which the artists and those who will come to attend will shape in the now.

PARK vierde in oktober 2018 het vijfjarig bestaan en maakte een boek waarin de activiteiten in de periode 2016-2018 zijn vastgelegd.
Het rijk geïllustreerde full-colour boek, met teksten van Esther Porcelijn en Rob Moonen, is opnieuw vormgegeven door Berry van Gerwen.
Het telt ruim 240 pagina’s en heeft een oplage van 600 stuks.
Alle tentoonstellingsprojecten, de bijna 200 exposerende kunstenaars en de extra activiteiten in de periode 2016-2018 komen aan bod. Het is de opvolger van het eerder verschenen ‘PARK 2013-2015‘.
Het boek kost € 20,- inclusief BTW, exclusief eventuele verzendkosten. Het verschijnt verschijnt op zondag 16 december 2018 tijdens een boekpresentatie om 16:00 uur bij PARK.

PARK is een kunstinitiatief opgericht in 2013 door Rob Moonen in samenwerking met een zestal andere Tilburgse kunstenaars. Op dit moment bestaat de PARK werkgroep uit Linda Arts, René Korten, Rob Moonen en Liza Voetman.
PARK richt zich op actuele ontwikkelingen binnen de hedendaagse kunst én op kunstenaars met gedegen ervaring en bewezen kwaliteit. Er wordt plek geboden aan regionale collega’s maar ook aan landelijk of internationaal opererende kunstenaars, juist om een positieve bijdrage aan de discussie over actuele kunst tot stand te brengen. De werkgroep ambieert het podium van belang te laten zijn op landelijk niveau, maar bij elk project wordt met nadruk gezocht naar een inhoudelijke koppeling met de stad. De werkgroep is er van overtuigd dat samenwerking met andere partijen de zichtbaarheid en functionaliteit van de plek zal versterken, maar ook dat de plek een waardevolle stimulans voor de beeldende kunst in de stad en de regio zal kunnen zijn.
PARK wil steeds nieuwe verbindingen leggen, bijvoorbeeld door (internationaal opererende) curatoren uit te nodigen om kennis te nemen van de keur aan regionale beeldende kunstenaars en daarvan mogelijk enkele op te nemen in een tentoonstellingsproject. PARK wil een bijdrage leveren aan de ontwikkeling van een gunstig productie- en vestigingsklimaat voor beeldend kunstenaars uit de regio door deze in contact te brengen met een nationaal en internationaal netwerk.
Per jaar worden er vijf projecten gerealiseerd met waar mogelijk een bijpassend raamprogramma in de vorm van lezingen, kunstenaarsgesprekken, muziek en film.

Op zaterdag 6 oktober organiseert Museum Dr8888 (Drachten) het Dada Poëziebal in Schouwburg De Lawei.
Vanaf 19.30 uur presenteert het museum in de Kleine Zaal een verrassend en onvoorspelbaar programma met poëzie, performances, muziek, beeld en dans.
Optredens worden verzorgd door o.a. K. Schippers, Astrid Lampe, Nyk de Vries, Jan Ketelaar, Meindert Talma en Andries de Jong. Het Poëziebal is onderdeel van het buitenprogramma van Museum Dr8888 en vindt plaats in het kader van Leeuwarden-Friesland 2018.
De avond wordt een beleving op zich en laat zich het best omschrijven als extravagant, intiem, verrassend en een tikkeltje rebels. Het Dada Poëziebal begint om 19.30 uur en vindt plaats in de Kleine Zaal van De Lawei. Het wordt een avondvullend programma met een divers palet aan multidisciplinaire performances waarin tegelijkertijd en op meerdere plekken tegelijk wordt geprogrammeerd. Optredens worden verzorgd door K. Schippers, Astrid Lampe, Jan Ketelaar, Alison Isadora, Jaap Blonk, Tim Schouten, Felicity Provan en Laura Polence, studenten Beeld en Taal van de Gerrit Rietveld Academie, Meindert Talma, Tijdelijke Toon, Bram Zielman, Andries de Jong, Leendert Vooijce, Nyk de Vries, Redactielokaal met Jamila Faber en Arjan Hut, Natasja Hoekstra en dansers en Willie Darktrousers.

FLAM (Forum of Live Art Amsterdam) 2018 is een jaarlijks terugkerende tentoonstelling in Arti et Amicitiae, waarin de grote verscheidenheid aan uitingen binnen de hedendaagse performancekunst ruimte krijgt.

De achtste editie vangt aan met FLAM Live: een intensieve week van live-kunst, waarin het lichaam met diens vele betekenissen het medium is. Deze editie wordt uitgebreid met FLAM Encounter: een tentoonstelling met installaties die op verschillende manieren hun oorsprong vinden in een performance. Middels deze transformatie biedt FLAM VIII een podium voor zowel de efemere als de materiële kant van diverse artistieke praktijken.
Om verschillende perspectieven op de werken te activeren hanteert FLAM VIII een metaforisch kader. De performances in de live-week worden opgevat als elementen van een wilde tuin; de toeschouwers worden uitgenodigd door de wilde tuin te dwalen, en samen met anderen de live-ervaring te delen.
De tentoonstelling wordt opgevat als een cruise-tuin, waarin objecten een beweging aansporen. FLAM Encounter nodigt het publiek uit om met een cruisende attitude de tentoonstellingszalen te betrekken, verschillende gezichtspunten in te nemen en een persoonlijke relatie aan te gaan met de objecten en andere lichamen in de ruimte. Het programma is ontworpen om onverwachte kruisbestuivingen te genereren tussen de kunstenaars, hun werk en het publiek.

The Theodora Niemeijer prize 2018 is awarded to Josefin Arnell. This was announced last Saturday during a ceremony in the auditorium of the Van Abbemuseum. Arnell will develop the project THE TICK in Het Oog (The Eye) in the Van Abbemuseum for half a year, starting end of September 2018, and in addition receives prize money of €10.000.
The jury felt inspired by the ambiguous world Josefin tries to create. What first appears as a sugar coated dreamy cartoonlike world in which millennial girls like to dwell, can suddenly turn into a horror scenario and back.
The second place is for Joy Mariama Smith, the third place for Isabelle Andriessen; they will receive €2.500 and €1.500 respectively. During this fourth edition of the Theodora Niemeijer prize, the jury had to select from nearly 100 project proposals.
The Theodora Niemeijer prize was introduced in 2012 by the Stichting Niemeijer Fonds and the Van Abbemuseum because women are still a minority in exhibitions and museum collections.
The prize is awarded once every two years to an artist living and working in the Netherlands who graduated at most five years ago. It is the only Dutch prize for visual arts dedicated specifically to women artists. Previous winners were Sissel Marie Tonn in 2016, Sachi Myachi in 2014 and Sarah van Sonsbeeck in 2012.

THE TICK presented in the Van Abbemuseum starting end of september 2018
THE TICK is a proposal by Josefin Arnell in which she would like to develop a sculpture in the shape of a monstrous giant tick that you can climb on. The sculpture will work as a playground in Het Oog for the viewer to discover in a playful way a mutated scary tick. Arnell would like to develop a sensor that sends signals when climbing or sitting on the sculpture, which fills the air with sound.

In de tentoonstelling EN ROUTE brengt beeldend kunstenaar Ellen Rijk een aantal recente grotere werken samen rond de thematiek van de ‘reis’, het onderweg zijn, waar ga je naar toe en waar ben je thuis. Met titels als Schuilboot of Troostvloot en Horizon nodigt zij de kijker uit tot bezinning, los van de waan van de dag, maar niet los van een wereld die volop in beweging is en vol verschillende identiteiten.
Zij toont haar schepen om te reizen, om te vluchten, gedwongen of gewoon meegevoerd in een tocht als over de Styx of om in te schuilen als in een kleine kapel of een kerk. Kaarten, foto’s en getijden om een reis of een thuis vast te leggen.
In de volksmond heet zij de Vredeskerk: O.L. Vrouw Koningin van de Vrede aan de Ringbaan West.De kerk, gebouwd in 1953, geopend in 1954, geldt als een van de hoogtepunten van de Tilburgse wederopbouwarchitectuur en is ontworpen door N.H. Pontzen, architect te Tilburg.
Sinds 2015 is zij buiten gebruik. Het gebouw is in het kader van de ontwijding ‘gestript’. Door de versobering komen de superieure verhoudingen sterk tot hun recht en nodigt de ruimte nog meer uit tot contemplatie, tot stilte en bezinning. Het lijkt de ideale entourage voor EN ROUTE ELLEN RIJK.
Ellen Rijk (Ossendrecht 1955) volgde na de Academie voor Beeldende Vorming in Tilburg de Academie voor Kunst en Vormgeving te Den Bosch, afdeling keramiek. Normaal niet meer weg te denken in de programmering van De NWE Vorst maar deze keer een speciale editie van speeches in de Vredeskerk. Zes genodigden betreden de kansel om een korte speech te geven. Met toesprekers uit allerlei gelederen, soms ervaren podiumbeesten, soms verlegen binnenvetters. Zij delen hun persoonlijke verhaal met u en prikkelen uw geest, treffen doel, geven een grimas, laten u niet onberoerd. Volgens traditie te beginnen met een filmpje van Leonard Bedaux Cinema.
Na een korte pauze speelt actrice Monique Hendriks haar korte poëtische monoloog “We kunnen er toch ook allemaal niks aan doen”, die de menselijke kant van de vluchtelingenproblematiek blootlegt en vertonen we het documentaire meesterwerk ‘Planet Sarajevo’ van de Bosnische cineast Sahin Sisic. Een groots kleinood over het leven van alledag in een stad in oorlog.

Litz Pisk was widely regarded as the finest and most influential teacher of modern theatre movement.
She was a director of movement at the Old Vic, National Theatre, Royal Shakespeare Company, English National Opera, and in television and films, including directing the movement for Vanessa Redgrave’s film role in Isadora. She was director of Vienna’s School of Art and Movement and a teacher at the Old Vic School, Bath Academy of Art, RADA and the Central School of Speech and Drama. The Actor and His Body, her seminal work, was first published in 1975.

Pisk’s quest was to find expression for the inner impulse that motivated actors to move. Her teachings, as outlined in this book, offer insight on the specific craft of the actor, and the relationship between movement, imagination and the ‘need’ to move.
The Actor and His Body is also a practical manual for keeping the actor’s body physically and expressively responsive. In addition, there are a range of movement exercises, illuminated by her exquisite line drawings, and complete weekly programme which concentrates on movement practice within different timescales.
This fourth edition features the original foreword by Michael Elliot as well as a new introduction by Ayse Tashkiran, contemporary movement director and Senior Lecturer at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, which contextualises Pisk’s work.
